There has been very little excitement around a potential Tyson Fury vs. Mahmoud Charr fight and Joe Joyce has joined the club of those who don’t want to see it.
Fury was set to fight Anthony Joshua, after the pair agreed terms, but ‘The Gypsy King’ called off the clash after ‘AJ’ missed his 5pm deadline on Monday to sign the contract .
Fury has since revealed his replacement opponent will be 37-year-old former WBA ‘regular’ champion Charr, and it has drawn disdain from boxing fans, including fellow British heavyweight Joyce.
“It will be a good fight while it lasts,” Joyce told SecondsOut. “But I think people don’t want to see that.
“They want to see Fury in better fights like Usyk, or Joshua, or me. There are plenty of other fights out there.
As for Fury’s rival Joshua, he is now in the cold without an opponent for December and when Joyce was asked how a fight could go between him and AJ, he gave a full answer.
“He gets knocked out, he gets fucked up” Joyce told IFL TV.
“His last performances didn’t really impress me.”
After Joyce’s tremendous eleventh round win over Joseph Parker, talkSPORT’s Spencer Oliver agrees that ‘The Juggernaut’ would be the favorite to fight Joshua.
“He’s going to be a tough man to beat no matter who he’s up against,” Oliver said.
“Let’s say he’s boxing Anthony Joshua next, who would you choose to win that one? I mean, Joyce would probably start the favourite, if I’m being totally honest, on that performance.
“What he did there to Joseph Parker, who has been around for a long time and is still only 30 years old and he has all that experience and you can point out all the people he has gone the distance with.
“Dillian Whyte, he got up off the ground. Anthony Joshua, he went the distance with. Andy Ruiz, he beat. I mean, the guy is a world class operator.
“What Joyce did there was amazing, it was a fantastic contest.”
