Here’s how the first round of the 2024 WWE Draft went:
- Smack down: Bianca Belair
- Raw: Jey Uso
- Smack down: Carmelo Hayes
- Raw:Seth Rollins
The show opened with Paul Heyman claiming that Roman Reigns had opted out of eligibility for this year’s draft, given that he wouldn’t be returning for a while. This served to create some intrigue around the top pick, given that it has been Reigns in recent years, although The Bloodline has always been listed as a group.
Like last year, Triple H was the first to reveal the top picks for each brand, with help from WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
This year was different, however, in that the champions were protected, so we had instant surprises and a first round that didn’t feel like it should have been the first round. This included the selection of NXT’s first-ever star in the premiere, with Carmelo Hayes officially being called up.
Meanwhile, every other pick saw each wrestler stick to the brand they were working on.
