Leicester promoted to Premier League after Leeds collapse due to timely distraction from off-field disputes

Leicester are back in the Premier League for the first time after Leeds United lost to QPR on Friday night.

The Foxes will return to the top tier next season with Leeds’ 4-0 defeat to QPR, meaning Leicester cannot finish outside the top two with two games remaining.

Ilias Chair, Lucas Andersen, Lyndon Dykes and Sam Field all scored for the R’s to give them a resounding victory and help them in their own battle to stay in the league.

Although it was arguably Leeds’ worst performance of the season, losing by their biggest margin since their relegation from the Premier League.

Leicester were favorites to win the championship this season after being relegated from the Premier League last year.

And although they could still give up the title, since Ipswich Town could mathematically catch up with them, they now know that they will not stay in the second division for much longer.

Leicester were 11 points ahead before Enzo Maresca’s men were in poor form and even momentarily lost top spot.

But their title rivals suffered their own problems, allowing the Foxes to take the lead.

Without even kicking a ball, Leicester know that when they face Preston North End on Monday night, they will return to the Premier League regardless of the result.

And while there will be celebrations in the streets of Leicester, there is also relief given the off-field problems that have hit the club financially.

The King Power Stadium side are under investigation for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules during their final campaign in the division before being relegated.

This means they could face a points deduction next season before a ball has been kicked, potentially leaving them in a perilous situation.

Clubs are not allowed to suffer losses of more than £105million over the course of three seasons, a figure the Foxes are believed to have exceeded.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have faced similar accusations this season and both clubs have been hit with points deductions.

This means that next season there could be major problems for Leicester – so while fans might celebrate on Friday night, the near future might not be as bright.
