Andy Ruiz Jr previously revealed that rival Anthony Joshua sent him direct messages on Instagram after beating him in their rematch in 2019.
The former world heavyweight champion stunned everyone when he knocked out AJ in June of the same year to claim the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.
However, Ruiz Jr weighed more than a stone more for their rematch in Saudi Arabia six months later after much partying and poor preparation.
As a result, he was comfortably dispatched and lost his belts.
The Mexican-American said he battled depression afterwards and bulked up to 320 pounds.
A shining light for him during this period, however, has been the messages of support he has received from his rival, who is now set to face Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night.
Having only recently experienced defeat for himself, AJ decided to console his opponent.
Ruiz Jr revealed to the Mail: “There were a few messages.
“We were just saying I would bounce back, that I’m a great fighter.
“I have nothing but love for him. I have no grudges.
The coronavirus pandemic delayed Ruiz Jr’s return to the ring, but he eventually returned and beat Chris Arreola in May 2021.
He hasn’t fought since but is now set to face Luis Ortiz on September 4.
