The WBC has given Tyson Fury two weeks – until Friday August 26 – to make a final decision on his retirement and vacating the WBC world heavyweight title.
The Gypsy King’s retirement saga has dragged on since the first press conference before his fight with Dillian Whyte earlier this year, when he made an unexpected announcement to a group of reporters.
Few believed at the time that he would really quit boxing after the Whyte win and many still doubt him now.
Just last week, Fury announced he was planning a return to face Derek Chisora in a trilogy fight.
However, negotiations stalled and on Friday – his 34th birthday – he again declared he was leaving the sport for good.
Fury has since officially vacated his Ring Magazine belt, which will now be on the line for the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch, live on talkSPORT on Saturday night.
However, he still owns his WBC crown.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman revealed that on Friday he spoke to Fury who insisted he was truly retiring, but Sulaiman initially chose not to elaborate on whether or not the WBC belt was released. .
He has since granted an interview to better explain the situation.
“We had a conversation with his promoter and gave him until August 26, so they could send us written confirmation of his final decision,” Sulaiman said. IZQUIERDAZO.
“With that, we can proceed to resolve the situation with the belt.
“We will wait until August 26.
“It is our deadline to have a formal confirmation of their final decision.
“We are not in a hurry. He was a great hero inside and outside the ring.
The move means Fury will have the opportunity to watch Usyk vs. Joshua before officially finalizing his retirement.
He could easily be tempted to come back and face the winner, as a large number of fans are still waiting for him.
