A fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury is all but agreed with a likely date and location set.
That’s according to Ukrainian manager, Egis Klimas, who says talkSPORT negotiations for the undisputed heavyweight fight began before Fury’s recent win over Derek Chisora.
Immediately following the victory which saw Fury defend his WBC belt, attention quickly turned to Usyk, who holds the WBA, IBF and WBO titles.
“We were in negotiations even before the [Chisora] fight, that’s why we showed up for the fight,” Klimas explained.
“So I’ve already spoken with Queensbury promotions and we’ve spoken to Top Rank [on Thursday] morning on a conference call.
“We’ve all gotten together and we’re almost done, there’s not much left to discuss.
“Two heavyweights, the best in the sport today, an undisputed heavyweight championship fight is what the fans need.”
Klimas was then asked about a potential date and location for the fight and he said, “It’s most likely no later than March 4 and most likely ends in the Middle East.
“But during the conversation today, I heard that other options were coming up, like maybe London, Qatar.
“But, most likely, we are targeting Saudi Arabia [Arabia] because they are very interested in this fight, the Saudis [Arabia] love Usyk.
It comes after Fury himself recently said he hopes to have the “greatest year of my career” in 2023.
It would consist of an undisputed showdown with Usyk followed by a battle against ‘The Juggernaut’ Joe Joyce and if all of that happens, boxing fans are in for a treat next year.
