Makeup artists Val Garland and Dominic Skinner did it all.
Val glued crystals to Björk’s face, spiked Lady Gaga’s face, and covered Cate Blanchett in red paint. Dom, meanwhile, worked on some of the most shocking makeup ever created for the shows of Jean-Paul Gaultier and Dame Vivienne Westwood.
Together they are judges for the BBC makeup competition, Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star, hosted by model Leomie Anderson, where they are known for their encouraging reviews and Val’s iconic “ding dong” catchphrase when ‘a makeup-up artist does an amazing job.
They have now shared some of the “early” defining moments of their careers.
Arriving in Britain from Australia in the mid-1990s, Val took part in the British fashion boom of the time, working with icons of the era such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Kate Moss.
Often working with Val over the years, Dom is now a Global Senior Artist at MAC Cosmetics.
