Former Louisville women’s basketball star Jill (Morton) McFarling was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Saturday night.
McFarling was the first honorable mention All-American in Cardinals history and the first alumnus to be selected in the WNBA draft. She was the 34th overall pick of the now-defunct Charlotte Sting in 2000. McFarling is also a member of the 2011 Louisville Athletics Hall of Fame.
McFarling recorded 1,402 points, 297 rebounds, 294 assists and 119 steals in 112 games for the Cardinals. She is 13th on the University of Los Angeles’ all-time scoring list and holds the school record for single-season 3-point accuracy after shooting a team-leading 53.5 percent. the NCAA during the 1999-2000 season. McFarling is the leader in career 3-point percentage (45.5). Before playing for Louisville, McFarling was a 1996 Indiana All-Star, a Gatorade Player of the Year and a Street & Smith All-American as a junior and senior. She scored 1,656 points for North Decatur.
Around town: Bellarmine’s Sloan Cox breaks record for fourth straight week
Bellarmine sophomore track and field thrower Sloan Cox broke the program record in the shot put for the fourth straight week. Cox threw about 55 feet, 8 inches (17 meters) at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington. His previous best was about 54-4 (16.57 meters) at the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Around the State: Grant Stepp becomes Kentucky State athletic director
Woodford County native Grant Stepp was recently named director of athletics at Kentucky State University.
Stepp, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky, was previously an associate AD at EKU. Her father worked as an assistant coach for EKU’s women’s program in the 1990s.
Stepp gained experience as a ticketing operations manager and event/game day operations coordinator at WKU. He was also responsible for the daily financial accounting, annual budget and internal audits of WKU’s ticketing operations.
Kentucky State is a Division II school and is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
High School Recruiting: Evangel Christian Basketball Star Kyran Tilley Announces Commitment to Central Missouri
Evangelical Christian senior Kyran Tilley will continue his basketball career at Central Missouri. Tilley led Evangel Christian to a top-four finish in the Sweet 16 tournament in 2024 and the program’s first win over Trinity. Tilley averaged a team-high 17.8 points and grabbed 3.1 rebounds per game.

- The Louisville Bats will visit the St. Paul Saints this week, starting with a 12:07 p.m. game on Tuesday. The series continues with matches at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before concluding with matches at 3:07 p.m. Saturday and May 5.

- Louisville track and field will travel to Bloomington, Indiana to compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday.
