Back to right back? No problem. Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is the man of the hour after his lone goal propelled the Bavarians past a strong Arsenal side and into the Champions League semi-final.
“It’s an incredible feeling to score such an important goal in front of our fans on a night like tonight,” Kimmich said for DAZN (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “These are the moments you work for and we worked hard to achieve this. Today I received the award, so I’m happy with it. For now we will focus on the semi-finals and then see what happens.
Bayern’s No. 6 – at the moment no longer No. 6 – broke down the match in more detail, as captured by FCBayern.com.
“The second half, especially, was very, very good,” Kimmich added. “We could have scored one or two more goals. Ultimately, taking both matches into account, especially today, we deserve to qualify.
“Both teams were very nervous in the first half. Nobody wanted to take risks. You could see that Arsenal wanted to control the match, but were afraid of our counter-attacks. We had a very good start to the second half, with a very good chance from Leon Goretzka, and several dangerous attacks afterwards. We played much better in the second half and with more determination, and deserved to progress.
Bayern are now set to face Real Madrid, but with the possibility of meeting Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in the final.
“A German final would be a dream. But there are two very difficult matches coming up. The Wembley dream is big,” Kimmich said (via reporter Az Maximilian Koch).
