The controversies surrounding Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter and his late brother, Aaron Carter, will be the subject of an upcoming Investigation Discovery documentary series.
The quartet which will debut over two evenings from May 27 on ID and Max follows the success of the cable network of Quiet on set: The dark side of children’s television, about former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider. The docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter will recall the Carter brothers’ outsized fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s, before the headline-grabbing struggles of recent years.
The ID series will explore accusations of sexual assault against Nick Carter by three women, while also delving into his brother, Aaron Carter’s struggles with mental health and substance abuse – and the breakup that occurred after Aaron decided to support his brother’s accusers. “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter not only offers a deeper understanding of the allegations, but also chronicles the backlash Nick’s accusers have faced since their decision to speak publicly and the lasting impact it has had on their lives,” ID said in its press release on the series.
“Fallen idols explores the dark side of fame and strained family dynamics, but also the intense challenges faced by accusers who prey on celebrities and pop culture icons in today’s modern world,” adds ID .
Aaron Carter rose to fame at a young age as a singer and television personality before his death in November 2022 at the age of 34. An autopsy revealed that he died from a drowning accident and the effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax.
In April 2023, Nick Carter was sued for sexual assault and sexual assault by Melissa Schuman, a former member of the pop group Dream. Carter previously denied Schuman’s allegations when they were first made in 2017. After Schuman’s decision to speak out, other accusers, Ashley Repp and Shay Ruth came forward with their own accusations.
With exclusive interviews with Schuman, Repp and Ruth, The accusations against Nick Carter will accompany revelations about the backlash the accusers have faced since their decision to speak publicly, according to the show’s producers.
The documentary series also promises testimony from a member of the Carter family and close friends of the family, including Nick’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones and Aaron’s former fiancée Melanie Martin.
