The parents of the 23-year-old woman killed when NFL wide receiver Henry Ruggs III crashed into his car early Tuesday morning in Las Vegas are “destroyed,” the woman’s brother told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday.
“I can’t even watch them,” said Djordje Tintor, Tina Tintor’s older brother, who died in the fiery crash in which Ruggs was driving at 156 mph with a blood alcohol level over double the legal limit. “Every time I watch them it breaks my heart. “
Djordje Tinor, 25, said his family fled war-torn Serbia in 2000 before moving to Las Vegas and his parents were preserving their privacy after the fatal accident.
“They’re not comfortable with attention and everything,” he said. “They just want to grieve their own way.”
Djodje Tintor also told USA TODAY Sports that he struggles to find the words to describe his emotions.
“It doesn’t seem real,” he said. “It’s like, what are the odds, you know?” “
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department said it responded at around 3:39 a.m. to a vehicle collision between a Chevrolet Corvette driven by Ruggs, which was freed by the Las Vegas Raiders after the crash, and a Toyota RAV -4 driven by Tintor. The Toyota was on fire and firefighters discovered Tintor inside the vehicle.
Her dog also died in the crash, and at the time of the crash they were driving home from a park, according to Djordje Tintor, who said her sister “always thought of everyone before her. None. second thought, no nothing. ”
Ruggs, 22, faces up to 20 years in prison for impaired driving causing death, which Nevada law says is a Class B felony.
He also faces a charge of reckless driving resulting in death or grievous bodily harm, punishable by one to six years.
The bond was set at $ 150,000 on Wednesday.
