Berlin Brothersvalley freshman guard Coral Prosser had the chance to play alongside some incredibly talented teammates on her SLAAM travel basketball team.
While many athletes and coaches on the travel circuit know of Prosser’s abilities, some people in Somerset County didn’t even understand how skilled she was. Prosser showed grit and determination this season, helping the Mountaineers to a 23-6 record, an intercounty conference title and their second straight District 5 Class 1A championship.

Prosser earned Class 1A second-team honors from the Pennsylvania Sports Writers to cap off his fantastic first season with the Mountaineers.
“It’s exciting. It’s very unexpected,” Prosser said. “I didn’t think about it at all, but it’s very exciting. I’m proud of myself. I couldn’t do this without any of my teammates. They are very helpful. They work hard in training and make me best. Without them, I couldn’t do anything.”
Prosser led Berlin with 480 points (16.6), 158 rebounds, 146 assists and 98 steals. She added 15 blocked shots. The balance of veteran seniors and a crop of underclassmen has made for a smooth transition to the college game for Prosser.
“Elders played a big role in how we came together,” Prosser said. “The younger group…we’re all starting to buy into it. We’ll be a much better program as we continue. The seniors have guided us to what we should hope for in the future.”

Veteran Berlin coach Rachel Prosser has coached many high-quality basketball players during her tenure. His daughter is just the next in a long line of greats.
“I thought she worked hard in practice every day,” Coach Prosser said. “She doesn’t take games. She did a good job fulfilling her role to help our team succeed.
“The whole team works hard. Our program has been building for a long time. We have a lot of girls who put in the time. Coral’s success comes from a lot of people buying in, working hard and training on Saturday mornings.”
Travel basketball has also contributed to Prosser’s success.
“The more you play, the more experience you get,” Coach Prosser said. “She has gained experience playing against top talent and athletes, which is hard to simulate.”
Coral Prosser wants the Mountaineers to thrive as she and her teammates continue their rise.
“I just want to keep working hard,” Coral Prosser said. “I want to help make the people around me better. We want to win championships. That’s our goal: to get there, work hard and be where we want to be as a team.”
