Tesla has recalled more than 3,800 of its Cybertruck models following complaints that the accelerator pedal could get stuck, US regulators said.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had contacted the automaker, founded and led by Elon Muskabout the issue earlier in the week.
This was after a video surfaced on the billionaire entrepreneur’s X platform and TikTok showing how a rubber cover attached to the accelerator could come loose, trapping the pedal to the floor.
Since then, it has been viewed millions of times on both platforms.

The regulator said a total of 3,878 Cybertrucks were affected by the recall.
Tesla began deliveries of its Cybertruck electric pickup truck late last year, after a two-year delay due to production issues and battery supply constraints.
The electric vehicle manufacturer will replace or repair the accelerator pedal free of charge and owners will be notified by mail sent to them in June, NHTSA said.
Cybertruck owner Jose Martinez told Sky’s US partner network NBC News how he had been driving his new Cybertruck for just six days at his local drag strip in Southern California when the car began to accelerate of herself.
He said: “As soon as I let off the brake it goes full throttle again.
“I had a space where I could understand what was happening. It wasn’t a situation where there were cars in front of me, a building or a tree.”

He then filmed the video that went viral to demonstrate the problem and said he made a temporary repair by simply removing the rubber cover from the pedal.
“Other than that, it’s a pretty solidly built car,” Martinez continued.
“I know saying ‘other than that’ makes it sound like it’s no big deal, and it is.”
“Because it’s such a massive car and it has such power, I feel like safety things absolutely need to be a priority to address this issue,” he added.
