Tottenham forward Richarlison showed full-time emotion as he celebrated his Champions League debut with his loved ones.
The Brazilian scored twice in a 2-0 win over Marseille to make it three in Spurs’ European opener and headed towards his watching family at White Hart Lane.
After big smiles and big hugs, emotion suddenly hit Richarlison in an instant as he covered his eyes and bowed above the bleachers for comfort.
Everton’s record £60m signing was entering his second game for Spurs after being an impact substitute under manager Antonio Conte, who may now have a selection headache on his hands.
The Italian appeared to be heading for a 0-0 draw in his first game in Europe’s top competition, but Richarlison paid for that with two skillfully taken headers for his first Tottenham goals.
The first saw him left in acres of space to nod in an Ivan Perisic cross with 14 minutes left, and it was the game five minutes later when he brilliantly passed his man to head out again.
Perisic, a competition veteran and winner in 2020 then put his arm around his team-mate, while Harry Kane tweeted a photo of them with the caption: “Congratulations on your first Tottenham goals. More soon.”
In what has already been a long and storied career for 25-year-old Richarlison, he has clearly reached new heights.
Playing in Europe’s top competition is considered the pinnacle for many players and Richarlison has patiently bided his time to play there.
Coming from Brazil in 2017, he joined Watford then Everton a year later.
Tottenham signed him in the summer and, as well as earning a place in Europe’s top flight, he has also recently become a regular in Brazil, winning the Olympics in 2021.
The striker also took part in the Copa America in the same summer, which saw him lose to Argentina in the final.
And there could well be more emotion this winter with the kick-off of the World Cup.
