The Huawei and Honor range of portable devices are among the best in the market; they are well priced, look great, have incredible battery life, and have great features for the price, including accurate fitness tracks.
However, they have a major flaw. Anyone who is half-serious in running, cycling, or outdoor fitness in general is likely to use Strava or other platforms, so that they can easily share activities with friends, analyze performance, and have a history of all activities, regardless of the device used.
This is the main reason why I never made a commitment to wear any of the Huawei Watch GT models.
It turns out that there is a way around the problem. There are a few apps that will let you sync your data between platforms. This includes syncing from Huawei Health to Strava.
The first app I tried was Fitness Syncer, which I think DC Rainmaker recommended, but it also requires you to use the Samsung Health app.
Bothnd is a bit newer and is called Health Sync. It’s pretty straightforward, and I wouldn’t say it works 100% perfectly, but it’s the best way to sync your data that I’ve tried.
This app is not 100% free, you get 8 days free use and then there is the option for a one-time payment of £ 2.69 or £ 0.69 every six months.
How to use Health Sync to sync from Huawei Health to Strava?
- Download Health Sync
- Follow the instructions on the screen
- Select Huawei Health as the source data – this will redirect to the permissions pages where you can select all of the options; you may need to sign in with your Huawei account.
- Select Strava as the destination – Again you will need to connect and allow connection
- Depending on your phone, you may need to turn off battery optimization for automatic syncing (I did this with my Huawei P30 Pro)
- If this is your first time using it, you can force a sync by tapping the sync button at the bottom.
It seems to only sync recent activity, so don’t expect it to sync months of your data
There is no way to manually select what to sync, for example you can’t sync months back, but you will also end up syncing all activities, which you might not mind posting on Strava.
Overall this looks like a great app and well worth the £ 2.69. With this, you can basically have the same kind of features as a much more expensive Garmin watch and a prettier watch (the Huawei Watch GT2 is a great choice).
