The Football Association has issued an apology after images of a Stockport player with a head injury were posted on their social media.
Macauley Southam-Hales – who starred in the 3-1 FA Cup win over Charlton Athletic – was rushed to hospital after colliding with the Edgeley Park billboard.
The Stockport star was battling to keep the ball in play near the goal line but lost his footing when he collided with Addicks captain George Dobson causing him to hit his head on the edge of a billboard.
The incident led to a heated exchange between the sides as Southam-Hales lay on the ground after the incident, but Dobson went unpunished.
The clash left a crack in the board and the midfielder was taken off and sent to hospital.
Fans were then shocked to see the official FA Cup TikTok account post a slow-motion video of the incident, along with audio of a loud crash – one of the app’s trending sounds.
In response, the FA apologized for posting the images.
A spokesperson said: “The social media post has been deleted and we sincerely apologize – it should never have been posted.
“The position was created by an external agency and we will be reviewing our processes to ensure this does not happen again.”
The incident comes exactly a month after Bath City’s Alex Fletcher required emergency brain surgery and was in intensive care after colliding with concrete advertising hoardings.
After the game, Stockport boss Dave Challinor said: “In the grand scheme of things, if he has a clear health record he is very, very lucky.
“If you look at it from a football perspective, even if people don’t want to say certain things or don’t want to hurt anyone, if it doesn’t endanger an opponent, I don’t know what it is. is.
“Anyway, it should be a send off.
“He’s probably an inch from a potentially fractured skull.”
Southam-Hales has since been given the all-clear from the hospital.
