Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly held talks with the representatives of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes after entering the race to sign the player this summer.

The likes of Man City, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all said to be interested in the Brazilian, who has a release clause worth around £100 million.

Magpies chief executive Darren Eales revealed earlier this year that the club may be forced to sell one of its key players in order to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

And talkSPORT reports that PSG have started talks with Guimaraes over a potential transfer, with the midfielder having a “burning desire to play in the Champions League”.

Newcastle are reportedly set to make a huge profit on the 26-year-old, who joined the club for £35million in January 2022.

Since then, Guimaraes has stood out at St James’ Park and played a key role in last season’s brilliant campaign, where they reached the Carabao Cup final and qualified for the Champions League.

However, they failed to get going, the season was plagued by injuries this time around.

The Saudi owners pumped in their money and Newcastle announced losses of £73.4m for the financial year ending June 2023 and £150m in the last two.

They now find themselves in a difficult financial situation, but Toon boss Eddie Howe is reluctant to sell his main man.

Speaking earlier this month, Howe said: “My intention would be to keep Bruno as long as possible because I can.

“But I can never give guarantees because that would be absolutely stupid of me. I’ve been in football long enough to know that you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow.

“But he is an integral part of the team and is playing very well at the moment.

“A lot will depend on our ambitions and the direction the club takes in the near future. We need to show that we are moving forward.
