Usher took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday with a story for his followers about how his son Naviyd Ely, 15, snuck into his phone so he could DM the PinkPantheress singer.
“So…about a week ago my son, Naviyd, stole my phone so he could text his favorite artist,” the eight-time Grammy winner, 45, said.
The Dallas native, whose full name is Usher Raymond IV, shared a screenshot of Naviyd’s message to PinkPantheress, as he described himself as her “true biggest fan” and asked her to follow him.
Usher said he took note of the exchange earlier this week while reviewing his account.
The Yeah! The singer said: “Now I checked my DMs earlier last week and I saw a message exchange from someone with a Powerpuff girl as their profile picture…so I’m thinking that’s it .

The Love in This Club singer then shared another DM in which he apologized to PinkPantheress, 23, for Naviyd’s actions, saying, “I’m so sorry… my son is a great fan.”
PinkPantheress, whose real name is Victoria Beverley Walker, said it was no problem and invited the family to a show.
Usher said he disagreed on how to move forward with the situation from a parenting perspective: “I had to act like he wasn’t allowed to go…BUT …because my son is such a fan of his artistic talent…I decided to let him ‘go.’
The Burn singer posted a DM in which he told PinkPantheress that Naviyd was planning to attend his show.
“I had to send it given his level of dedication and creativity… to successfully get your attention by stealing my phone… it’s a commitment,” he said. “I hope you can bond.”
Usher then shared images of Naviyd posing with PinkPantheress, as well as performance photos of the rising English singer, who has over 2 million followers on Instagram and is currently on the Capable of Love tour.
Usher said that while he was upset about his son using his phone without his permission, he was impressed by his commitment to “something he was passionate about.”

Usher is the father of four children: sons Usher “Cinco” Raymond V, 16, and Naviyd Ely, 15, with ex-wife Tameka Foster, 53; and daughter Sovereign Bo, three, and son Sir Castrello, two, with his wife Jenn Goicoechea
He added: “Yes… he violated my trust in the process and for that I will never trust him with my phone, but I should have known better.
“Still, I enjoy the hustle and the fact that he’s making it happen.” From a text, to a concert, to the artist. He organized it all and made it happen.
The R&B staple has been married three times: to Tameka Foster, 53, from 2007 to 2009; and to Grace Harry from 2015 to 2018; and to Jenn Goicoechea, 40, whom he married last February.
Usher is the father of four children: sons Usher ‘Cinco’ Raymond V, 16, and Naviyd Ely, 15, with Foster; and her daughter Sovereign Bo, three years old, and her son Sir Castrello, two years old, with Goicoechea.
Usher is less than three months away from setting a career high, as he headlined the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Usher joined a group of famous luminaries to headline the halftime show, which includes the late Michael Jackson and Prince; as well as Rihanna, Beyoncé, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Dr. Dre.
Usher is set to embark on a 24-city North American tour titled Past Present Future, opening August 20 at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC, and continuing through October 29 with a date at the United Center in Chicago. The tour is expected to make stops in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami and Toronto.
