Angelina Jolie’s role in the new Broadway show The Outsiders goes way beyond the production: She’s also styling the cast with custom looks for the big premiere. The play, directed by Danya Taymor, is an adaptation of the novel 167 by SE Hinton. The story follows two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs, separated by their socio-economic class.
“I considered that the story was set in Tulsa in 1967 and the artists I was dressing were mostly the Greasers,” Jolie said. Teen Vogue about the red carpet premiere. “I also tried to listen, and each person I dressed participated in designing or choosing their own pieces. I don’t believe in people’s style. I love creating looks with artists.”
For the looks, Jolie worked with celebrity tattoo artist Mark Mahoney to embroider iconic lines and phrases from the story onto the looks, like “stay gold.” She explained: “It’s a team effort with tailors and embroiderers and, above all, Mark Mahoney.”
