The original story (published May 05, 2021) follows:
Google’s Chrome browser absolutely dominates the web today with a monopoly market share of 64.19%, at least according to the latest statistics from 2021.
So this means that there are millions of users around the world who are using Google Chrome to browse the web, not only on their PCs but also on their smartphones.
While the browser, like any other modern browser, offers users a way to bookmark and save web pages, an easy way is to add shortcuts to the home screen.
This allows users to return to those important web pages or web services quickly and easily. However, there seems to be a problem with this feature.
A quick scroll around the web reveals reports of Google Chrome users on various Android devices, noting that their shortcuts are disappearing as a result of recent updates.
All Chrome shortcuts (icons) disappeared from 5 pages without any warning. I saw that all of my 5 pages were almost blank when I opened my phone yesterday morning. I did not do any software update by myself. The device is OnePlus Nord. Oxygen OS 11.1.1.1 AC01BA.

I added shortcuts to my home screen for different cars / parts and they all disappeared after restarting my phone. There were probably over 60 different websites that I had saved (which was hours if researching) how do I get it back.

I created several shortcuts for recently used icons and websites, but after restarting the phone all the icons were removed on their own which happened for the second time in this week .

This issue is not exclusive to OnePlus users, as the same issue has been reported by users of Google Pixel devices (1,2,3) and even by a number of Samsung users.
For such a widespread problem, it is interesting to note that this has not since been addressed or even recognized by the parties involved or involved.
Fortunately, there might be a solution to this problem after all. A discussion with the Google support representative reveals a possible workaround for this problem.
Go to Settings, then Apps & notifications, then select See all apps. Select the three dots at the top right, select Reset app preferences, and then reset apps.

We still don’t have much for these affected users, so this is the best they can have until Google or one of those affected OEMs can come up with a better solution.
