Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia LIVE: Date, UK start time, undercard and how to follow as Mexican superstars clash

Canelo Alvarez returns next weekend as he defends his undisputed super middleweight world title against undefeated Jaime Munguia.

The Mexican superstar will fight again on his favorite Cinco de Mayo weekend, with this year’s clash even more special because his opponent is a compatriot.

This will be Canelo’s eighth time in the ring during his National Day weekend, but only the second against a compatriot.

That fight turned out to be a dominant victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in 2017, but Munguia will represent a much sterner test.

The 27-year-old is undefeated in 43 fights, with 34 knockouts and his most recent victory came over Englishman John Ryder in January.

Canelo (60-2-2/39 KOs) also beat Ryder last year and most recently defeated Jermell Charlo by unanimous decision in September.

The 33-year-old had unsuccessfully attempted to face David Benavidez next, but instead faces Oscar De La Hoya fighter Munguia in his first event with his former promoter since their acrimonious split in 2020.
