During the interview, the host discussed the 3D release of the film. Cooley shared that he usually enjoys seeing animated films in 3D, but he was stunned when Transformers One He was shown 3D images.
The storytelling was enhanced by adding an extra dimension to the visuals. Cooley highly recommended fans watch the film in 3D, as the detailed world of Cybertron becomes much more vivid there. The director explained that the scale of the film became important because humans generally provide a sense of scale on screen for a film. The lack of humans in the film made it difficult to understand the size of the world and the objects within it.
However, Dune inspired the director to focus on building a huge world. The vast and dramatic landscapes become an important part of the story in both films that would otherwise be difficult to appreciate. According to Cooley, 3D makes the huge world more immersive for audiences. Cooley shared with Collider:
“I highly recommend seeing it in 3D because our world is very detailed. It makes everything a lot more alive as an added dimension, obviously, but also the scale was so important to this film. Without humans, you have nothing to relate the scale of this world to, and so we went in the other direction, which is like, “The world is huge.” Dune had a big influence on that. So it was like, “Let’s go in the opposite direction.” 3D only makes it better.
Cooley also praised the animation work done in the film by George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic. Some scenes in the less than two-hour film required extreme detail, making animation work complicated. Cooley believed that “ILM just hit it out of the park.”
Transformers One The characters and looks are inspired by First generation Series
During the Collider interview, Josh Cooley said that the production team and ILM wanted the film to be credible. They were inspired by the original creations of Transformers TV shows. Popularly called the First generation series among fans, the American-Japanese show ran from 1984 to 1987.

“I didn’t want it to become photorealistic, but I wanted it to look believable. That was my keyword for everything, it was like, “I want to feel like you can actually reach out and touch it.” » So we were inspired by the original designs, the original designs of the G1. Because it’s animation, we can actually get that living metallic look, which is what their faces are made of and everything. So we opted for this look.
Transformers One is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on September 20, 2024.
