‘He’s a strange guy’ – Eddie Hearn compares Oscar De La Hoya’s relationship to Eminem’s song as he explains social media feud

Eddie Hearn compared his relationship with Oscar De La Hoya to rapper Eminem’s song “Stan.”

De La Hoya and Hearn have had a tense working relationship for several years and their feud has reignited with rival sides’ promoters over Ryan Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney.

Things were amicable between the two men during their face-off, but their feud erupted again on social media after Garcia’s victory.

He said during an appearance on talkSPORT Fight Night: “He’s a strange guy. We’ve had several face-to-face meetings, but he seems to just be trolling online.

“Not just my posts, but every other post with pictures of me, he throws one.

“And he won in that Garcia versus Haney match, God knows what would have happened if he had lost.

“It’s quite flattering, I was listening to Eminem’s song Stan and it made me think a little of Oscar.

“I hope that when I arrive at the office on Monday and there is no letter on the desk, our thoughts will be with him.”

Eminem’s famous hit is based on a character called “Stan” who claims to be a big fan of the rapper.

The term is now often used on social media to refer to a fan obsessed with something, taken from the song title.

Boxing legend De La Hoya runs Golden Boy Promotions in the United States and is unhappy with Hearn’s entry into the American market with Matchroom Boxing.

His criticism was posted on social media, alongside a photo of Hearn, on which he commented: “Eddie, for the sake of British boxing, just stay in the UK and promote, let the real ones promoters in the American market where boxing is important.

“You had the opportunity to waste hundreds of millions of dollars not to build anything in the United States.”

Hearn then responded, writing, “Oscar De La Hoya, really, are you okay? You’re stalking me like a crazy fan.

“You had a great victory on Saturday and yet I consume your mind 24/7.

“Unfortunately for you, I am a world promoter with 18 world champions (you have four).”
