Kanye West compares to Taylor Swiftalthough he had bad blood with the pop star for years.
Following a news Billboard report that claimed West, 45, was quietly buying up his publishing catalog, the rapper took to Instagram to give his side of the story, which he says sounds a lot like Swift’s dispute over his masters who have been sold twice without his knowledge.
“JUST LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT,” West wrote in an Instagram Story on Tuesday, September 20. “MY PUBLICATIONS ARE FOR SALE UNWITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE.”
He then tried to demystify the Billboard report, claiming his publication is not available for purchase at all, writing “NOT FOR SALE” at the end of Tuesday’s article.
The first one Billboard West’s catalog report claimed that representatives of the donda The artist has been meeting potential buyers for his music catalog over the past ten months, with sources estimating that West is looking for “up to 35 times the publisher’s net share, or gross profit,” for his catalog.
In a follow-up Instagram story, the “Praise God” singer revealed a text message he sent to an anonymous person, which read, “Can you ask Gee who sells my posts,” apparently in reference to his manager. Gee Roberson. The person replied with a “De Gee” message that read: “Fake news…Of course every editor wants to present [sic] hardest to buy. Hmm.”

While it’s currently unclear if his posts are for sale, West’s situation isn’t as similar to Swift’s as he might think, as Variety underline. “The situations are radically different, even if someone bought his publications without his knowledge,” writes the publication.
Swift’s edition never went on sale when her former label Big Machine struck a deal with a talent manager Braun’s Scooter Ithaca Holdings LLC, which acquired the songwriter Masters in 2019 for $300 million, per Variety.
The “Lover” singer, 32, had previously tried to buy her own masters from Big Machine before Braun’s deal was struck, but said she was offered unfavorable terms. She also didn’t know that her masters would be sold to Braun, whom she accused of bullying her in the past.
Braun then sold Swift’s Masters, which included her first six albums, marking the second time the singer’s catalog had been sold without her knowledge.
Instead of fighting more for the return of her masters, Swift re-recorded her past albums, with Fearless (Taylor version) and Red (Taylor’s version) released so far.
