Olympic champion Jennifer Valente narrowly defended her overall lead in the UCI Track Champions League Women’s Endurance Series in the second run of the race on Saturday.
Valente did enough to stay top of the standings after a strong comeback from Olympic and World Championship star Katie Archibald (Great Britain).

Archibald beat Valente in tense battles in the elimination and zero races at the Berlin round of the UCI series this weekend and cut the Californian’s lead to just six points.
“The scratch was really tough,” Archibald said.
“I wanted to attack early, but then I thought ‘I’m going to hold back.’ Suddenly, Jennifer Valente approached, and from my seat, I had the impression that she could decide to leave when no one else could. She came with me, and we had to commit us. I thought I’m going to take a bet and made my move. When we got the round, I felt a little more confident.
“Elimination was also a tough race until the very end. However, tonight went brilliantly and two wins, it’s unbelievable. I feel like I came with a super power.
We’re back to normal in the race for elimination! Last week, @_katiearchibald 🇬🇧 was eliminated first, but not this time! 💪
She proved that it was just a mistake and that she is still the best at this event. Back to this level after such a difficult season, Hats off to Katie! 🎩#UCITCL pic.twitter.com/DdY7tnlkyE

Lily Williams placed the American riders one to three on the endurance series podium with a slight advantage over fourth place Sarah Van Dam (Canada).
Martha Bayona Pineda (Colombia) leads the overall sprint category standings, while Harry Lavreysen (Netherlands) and Mathias Guillemette (Canada) lead the men’s sprint and endurance league standings, respectively.
Valente takes his slim lead over Archibald for the next round of racing at St-Quentin-En-Yvelines, France next weekend.
The five-night track Champions League culminates with two trips to the Lee Valley VeloPark, London, on December 2 and 3.
