As expected, Tyson Fury is officially out of retirement and he’s now on the hunt for more story.
After Fury knocked out Dillian Whyte in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in April earlier this year, he retired from the sport of boxing.
At the time, nobody believed him and we were right because “The Gypsy King” recently announced that he would return to the ring.
It looked like his retirement might be in earnest last month when he vacated his Ring Magazine title, but it turns out it was all a ploy to equal a record set by Muhammad Ali.
“The Greatest” is the only three-time Ring Magazine champion in boxing history, having won the title against Sonny Liston, George Foreman and Leon Spinks.
Fury is a two-time Ring Magazine champion, having beaten Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder for the title and now ‘The Gypsy King’ only needs to beat Oleksandr Usyk to tie Ali’s record.
“I got bored with retirement,” Fury told Ring Magazine. “I was five months out of the ring and I changed my mind.
“Nobody believed me anyway, did they?” I still would have passed a lie detector test, that’s for sure.
“I vacated The Ring title and will now become a three-time Ring champion.
“I am here to do well. I’m not here to be mediocre. Ali is on his own with these three Ring Magazine belts and I’ll match that when I get to middleweight [Usyk] in the ring.”
“I sat at home for five months doing talk shows and a bit of filming,” Fury continued.
“That was great! But nothing will ever compare to being world heavyweight champion and joking around with the guys a bit. And when I say guys, I mean everybody in boxing.
“I love boxing. I absolutely love it.
“I still have plenty of time to do what I want. I will probably become the “New Mongoose” and continue to box at 50.
This refers to “The Old Mongoose”, Archie Moore, who had an extremely long career spanning four decades from 1935 to 1963, stepping into the ring 220 times and retiring at age 49.
Fury also revealed that he decided to fight again to provide a source of entertainment and distraction for the public during difficult times.
“I was out for a minute,” Fury said. “But now I’m back. I missed the roar of the crowd and I missed everything about boxing.
“I can’t wait to put on a show in these trying times. For anyone struggling, times of crisis and rising energy bills, I want to give everyone hope and another massive event they can go to. to assist.
“They can have fun and forget everything that’s going on in the world.
“A Tyson Fury fight is bigger than boxing, it’s entertainment and delight for the audience.”
