After two weeks of anticipation and teasing during the pre-order period, Huawei has finally made available its newcomer on a low budget: the Huawei Y6. Budget phones have improved in recent years, and Huawei knows this, as evidenced by previous launches of youth and entry-level devices in this market segment.
Huawei Y6s is the first Y series device to launch this year and will join its other Y series phones as it targets price-conscious consumers
Here’s everything you need to know about the Huawei Y6s
The Huawei Y6s comes with a 6.09 inch Dewdrop LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels.
It works on Android 9 Pie and EMUI 9.1. For anyone worried about Google apps, the device comes pre-installed, including the Google Play Store, Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Duo, Google App, Google Photos, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
Huawei’s application gallery is also available in case you want to venture out and see which applications are available on the Huawei platform as it prepares for life without Google’s applications and services. They are already working to bring popular Facebook apps to their other app store.
Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio P35 chip which is an upgrade from the Helio A22 chip found in the predecessor, the Huawei Y6 (2019).
Huawei has also upgraded the RAM and storage configuration from 2 GB of RAM to 3 GB of RAM and from 32 GB of built-in storage to 64 GB of built-in storage. There is also a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. You can expand storage using an external MicroSD card up to 512 GB.
The rear finish of the Huawei Y6 is available in 2 beautiful shades – a glossy upper half and a matte lower half. There will be two versions: Orchid Blue and Starry Black.
The photography is managed by an 8MP selfie camera housed in the water drop notch which interrupts the display coupled to a 13MP main rear camera.
For biometrics, you get the face unlock and a rear fingerprint scanner.
A 3020mAh battery will power the device. It also has a MicroUSB charging port.
What they say
“The introduction of the Huawei Y6 to the market is part of our strategy to target users who are looking for an economical device that offers a unique experience that meets their needs and requirements. As we aim to position ourselves as the world number one in the device category, we want to make sure that we provide devices that meet the needs of these consumers, “said Jim Zhujie, country manager for Huawei Mobile Kenya.
“We are also looking for partnerships with lenders and partners who resonate with our brand philosophy so that every Kenya can afford a Huawei device without any problems. We are also planning to develop a strategy for positioning our brand in the market in order to reach consumers at their doorsteps, ”he added.
