Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Global Compact Network Thailand (GCNT) co-organized the seminar “Thailand Talent Talk Episode 4: Powering an Upskilled Industry Workforce towards a low-carbon Thailand”, the latest episode in a series of conferences on digital transformation.
At the symposium, the Ministry of Energy, Chulalongkorn University and the Federation of Thai Industries exchanged opinions to highlight the importance of fostering new digital talent and using technology to help transition to thailand carbon neutral 2050.
The impacts of Industry 4.0 and COVID-19 on Thailand have justified the need to scale up the future readiness of the country’s digital workforce. According to Thailand’s White Paper on Digital Talent Development, co-developed by Huawei, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation , Thailand will face a talent gap of 500,000 by 2030 if no proactive measures are taken. The pandemic has led to an acceleration of digital transformation, as well as presenting a path to a low carbon and BCG economy model.
To mitigate these challenges, Huawei and GCNT co-hosted a series of four episodic seminars throughout 2022 under the theme “Thailand Talent Talk”, which aimed to build an open platform to discuss challenges, practices and pathways to foster a favorable ecosystem for low-carbon green development and sustainable growth. The partners presented solutions to current challenges and worked together to find the most effective direction for Thailand to move towards digital transformation, with topics mainly focusing on issues related to technology, digital inclusion, cybersecurity, SMEs and startup growth.
In the fourth episode, Huawei and its partners pointed out that future energy trends in Thailand will shift to green energy, and the private and public sectors should work together to create a thriving environment.
digital ecosystem to support low carbonization in the future. In addition, in order to embrace new forms of business and strategically build a suitable platform for the future of the workplace, Huawei has worked closely with all relevant partners to further focus on digital power, innovation for sustainable development and the promotion of digital ecosystems. through the development of new ICT staff for Thailand in 2023.
From a macro-level policy perspective, Poonpat Leesombatpiboon, Executive Director of the Department of Energy’s Office of International Energy Cooperation, shared key challenges and opportunities in driving energy transitions and boosting innovation: “Green trends are gaining popularity around the world. We are inspired to see the race to fight climate change gain widespread adoption. With this in mind, Thailand became the first ASEAN country to officially propose its own National Carbon Neutral Roadmap 2050 at the COP26 summit. The Ministry of Energy is the driving force helping Thailand go green, but public and private sectors, educational institutions and organizations must collaborate inside and outside the country to drive a greener Thailand.
Coming from the perspective of research and academia, Chulalongkorn University researcher Dr. Phimsupha Kokchang said, “Mindset is very important, if people in the country understand the benefits that low-carbon energy could have on their lives, then the goal of net-zero emissions will more easily become a reality. Effective communication is therefore crucial. Additionally, as a higher education institution, we need to put more emphasis on developing a digital talent pool and partner with private sector organizations like Huawei or the Federation of Thai Industries to equip younger generations with the skills required for ever-evolving renewable energy. energy-related industries in the years to come.
For digital industries, the need to partner with the public and private sectors to create low-carbon innovation and technology ecosystems has become crucial. “The current progress and potential of renewable energy is accelerating thanks to Huawei’s collaborative efforts. Zero carbon emissions have been a major topic for FTI in previous years and will soon have a significant impact on the earth, its people and the economies of every country,” said Arthit Vechakij, vice president of the Renewable Energy Industry Club. , Federation of Thai Industries. (FTI). “There are more digital talents needed in Thailand who specialize in green innovations. FTI will work with all partners, universities and Huawei Thailand to help improve skills and encourage more ICT personnel for Thailand’s digital future. »
Echoing this, GCNT Executive Director Thanyaporn Krichtitayawuth also shared her opinion: “Key actions and platforms for an innovative, low-carbon Thailand include investing in cleaner technologies and sustainability projects. , as well as building capacity in design thinking towards a biocircular Green Economy. We need people who can think of new business models with increased resource efficiency and investment responsibility to accelerate a green transition. environment towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to facilitate partnerships to expand knowledge on carbon and energy markets, better low-carbon technologies and development future digital talents in the country.
Huawei Thailand, as a global solar power and ICT solutions provider, places great importance on guiding Thailand towards a green future. Their mission is to use and leverage their considerable industry expertise to support increasingly diverse organizations and social sectors. Additionally, Huawei is accelerating the development of digital skills for talent through several ongoing initiatives, namely the Huawei ASEAN Academy, which has incubated more than 60,000 ICT personnel as well as 2,600 SMEs. During the seminar, Suthee Traivivatana, Chief Strategy Officer of Huawei Thailand Digital Power Business Group, shared Huawei’s perspective on potential strategies and key technologies, including the view that everyone is now heading towards low-carbon societies: this highlights the need to have a skilled workforce specifically to meet future demands ahead. In Thailand, universities have shown their readiness for these changes, as evidenced by their more integrated and specialized curricula. In addition, infrastructure is another critical factor for Thailand, where digital technologies must be properly applied and fully compatible. It is therefore with great confidence that Huawei believes that its technologies can help lead Thailand towards a sustainable, low-carbon society. Our long-standing expertise in the digital energy sector, as well as our various platforms that enable greater collaboration between partners, can harmoniously contribute to pushing Thailand towards less carbonization.
