Dylan Frittelli won his first DP World Tour title in six years with a two-stroke victory at the Bahrain Championship.
The South African finished two ahead of Zander Lombard and Jesper Svensson at 13 under, reaching a final round of 71.
The 33-year-old’s victory, his first since the 2017 Mauritius Open, comes as he plans to retire in 2023.
“Last year I felt like I was giving up on the game a few times, to be honest,” he said. “It’s great to be back on top right now.”
Frittelli, a former winner on the DP World, PGA and European Challenge Tours, considered leaving the sport after missing the cut or withdrawing from 23 of his 27 PGA Tour starts last season.
“It’s been a long road the last five or six years since I left the DP World Tour and moved to the United States,” Frittelli said.
“Last year was quite difficult. I found some determination at the end of last year and got some good work from my physiotherapist and my trainers and trainers. I’m happy to “Persevering and all the support from my family and friends has been so worth it.”
Frittelli, world number 434, entered the final day two shots ahead, having qualified for the tournament via a new exemption category on the DP World Tour.
That advantage was wiped out, however, as he dropped two shots in the first 12 holes, but he responded with three birdies in the next four holes to secure his victory.
He added: “I think it shows my mental strength – it shows my focus and those things that you can’t really quantify.
“I did well all week and then all of a sudden I couldn’t hit the planet in Sunday’s round, so I’m glad I managed to have the determination.”
