Everton continued their spectacular comeback with a 2-1 win over Southampton.
The Toffees endured a torrid campaign last season in which they narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.
After losing their first two games to Chelsea and Aston Villa this season, many fans will have feared another season of struggle.
However, it looks like Frank Lampard’s side had other ideas.
It was Joe Aribo who gave Southampton the lead with an excellent effort just four minutes after the half-time break.
That lead only lasted three minutes, however, with Conor Coady leveling the game with his first goal for the Toffees.
And just two minutes later, Lampard’s side were ahead with Dwight McNeil slamming from close range for his own first Everton goal to make it 2-1.
While Southampton certainly had their chances, the Merseyside side were able to see the game and push themselves into a midfield position.
The win secures the Toffees back-to-back wins for the first time this season, while extending their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions.
Although this is the first time they have gone seven unbeaten since Carlo Ancelotti was in charge in 2020, the feat is even more impressive considering their defensive performances.
In those seven matches, Everton have kept six clean sheets and conceded only four goals.
With seven goals conceded in total in the Premier League, it means that full-time at St Mary’s Stadium, only Manchester City had conceded fewer league goals with six.
