Arsenal are close to finalizing a new contract for midfielder Jorginho, according to talkSPORT.
The Gunners are expected to officially announce that Jorginho has extended his current contract, which expires this summer, by at least another year within the next fortnight.
Jorginho made the move from west to north London during the 2023 winter transfer window, which saw Arsenal pay Chelsea £12 million for his services.
The Brazilian-born Italian international has signed for 18 months, with the 32-year-old’s contract offering an option for a further 12 months.
And he has established himself as a key player in the team under Mikel Arteta – making 35 appearances in all competitions this season.
Champions League winner Jorginho is seen as a natural leader in the dressing room and impressed in Thomas Partey’s absence.
He started ten Premier League matches, where he formed a formidable partnership with Declan Rice.
His impending new deal will be music to the ears of Arsenal fans after his agent Joao Santos revealed five clubs he could join this summer if he leaves the Emirates Stadium.
But while Jorginho is expected to stay at London Colney, talkSPORT understands Partey’s situation at the club remains unclear.
The Ghanaian, who has suffered repeated injuries since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2020, is linked with Arsenal until 2025.
And it is believed Arsenal could be open to offers for the 30-year-old.
Returning to full fitness, Partey was instrumental in the London derby wins over Chelsea and Tottenham.
Arsenal are also reportedly looking for a new midfielder, with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes on Arteta’s radar.
But Paris Saint-Germain are looking to take the lead in the race for the Brazilian after holding talks with his representatives.
