A near-death experience led wrestling legend Chris Jericho to completely transform his diet and lose over 30 pounds of weight.
The 51-year-old was then so shredded that people even accused him of having abdominal implants.
Jericho is a veteran of the wrestling scene, having gotten his start in ECW and WCW in the 1990s and becoming a fan favorite in WWE where he was undisputed champion and three-time heavyweight champion.
His association with WWE lasted nearly two decades before making his final appearance in January 2018.
After a brief stint in Japan, he joined the new AEW and became the first World Champion.
Jericho revealed that his weight had steadily increased over the years and was shocked when he stepped on the scale.
“When AEW started in 2019, I was always in that mindset. [of getting bigger]”, he told GQ. “I didn’t even realize that I was climbing. I went to the doctor towards the end of 2019, and it was the first time that I been on a scale for a while.
“He said I was 240. I was like, ‘240? It can’t be true! I remember saying to the guy, ‘Do I see as if I was 240 years old? And the guy is like, [awkwardshrug] ‘I do not know.’
“It was the first time I had to realize, ‘Holy shit, I’m 240 pounds. That’s big.'”
Jericho then had a medical scare at the end of 2021 while on tour in England with his band Fozzy.
After having breathing problems on stage, he went to the doctor and discovered that he had a pulmonary embolism, which is blood clots in his lungs.
After returning to the United States, he was told that he needed to lose weight with his body fat at 21%.
He continued: “I started on January 10 and I wanted to lose 10 pounds in six weeks. Well, with this diet, I lost 11 pounds in the first week. So I said, ‘Well, this isn’t super difficult. Let me dwell on that for a moment.
“Eight weeks later I was down to 210 pounds. I lost 31 pounds in eight weeks.
Jericho added, “When I lost all the weight, there was no, like, ‘Oh wow, Jericho’s not fat.’ It was like, ‘Oh, he went to get a B implants! This is what he did!'”
He revealed his diet consists of oats for breakfast, followed by small snacks and main meals with 8oz of protein and salad.
Jericho also said he constantly drinks water, but still allows himself a shot of vodka once in a while.
Yet he has nothing on fellow WWE legend and now Hollywood star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
When Rocky was cast as the lead in the movie “Hercules,” he reportedly ate up to SEVEN high-protein meals a day to get shredded for the role.
That equates to a whopping total of 4,131 calories – essentially double the recommended average for men – and when he’s not training he normally eats around five meals a day.
