After touchdowns on each of their first drives, the Browns and Buccaneers struggled to score for the rest of the first half since Cleveland. The two teams tied 10-10 at intermission.
Cleveland drew first blood when Anthony Schwartz scored on a backhand from 31 yards out. Tampa Bay responded with Tom Brady’s 10-yard pass to Chris Godwin. Down 10-7 at the end of the half, four successful passes from Brady to Godwin allowed Ryan Succop to score an even field goal from 42 yards with 39 seconds left in the half. Hail Mary of the Browns on the last play of the half was blocked in the end zone by Buccaneers defensive back Mike Edwards.
Although neither cleared 100 yards, Brady and Jacoby Brissett both enjoyed effective halves. Brady went 12 of 15 for 93 yards, while his counterpart went 12 of 18 for 85 yards. Godwin led the Buccaneers offense with 58 yards on six catches in the first 30 minutes of the game. Cleveland’s offense largely revolved around running back Nick Chubb, who gained 50 all-purpose yards on nine touches.
