“They’re already considerably ahead of next year’s car,” said Permane, when asked about progress heading into 2023. “It’s very good. It’s very exciting.”

Alpine’s scoring form has been hit this season by a series of reliability issues, but the team have made it clear they need to push things to the limit at the start of the new rules era so they can reap greater rewards over the longer term. .
“We had some reliability issues, but that kind of factored into our year this year,” added Permane.
“There was a massive change to the power unit and a massive change to the gearbox. We knew there would be some issues, but I think we all signed up for it.
“We knew it could potentially be a little difficult, but it would generate meaningful performance. And that’s exactly what he did. So we’re very happy with how things are going.
Permane praised the efforts made by the Alpine factory staff, who are constantly making improvements with new developments – which was proven by the new floor that came for Singapore.
“It’s version four of our floor and in Austin it will be 4B,” he said. “We have another update, but not as big as this one.
“It’s just that the tunnel works very, very well. We find many things. We had always planned an upgrade for Singapore – it was just double what we thought it would be.
