GOTHENBURG, Sweden, September 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Korsningen block project is now complete and Castellum is one of the first companies in the Nordics to receive a NollCO2 (Zero CO2) certificate.
The Swedish police, tenant of the project, recently moved into the office building in Korsningen, in the center of Örebro. The main body of the house – seven stories, built entirely of wood and comprising 6,900 square meters of rental office space – radiates sustainability and innovation. The solar panels on the roof of the property not only supply the building with energy but also generate a surplus of renewable energy which can be used by others.
Building a timber frame means emissions are around 40% lower than conventional construction methods. When Castellum builds new structures, we are choosy about the materials we choose and how those materials are made and transported. At a minimum, we require new office buildings to qualify for Miljöbyggnad Gold level, and for this project we have now also been awarded NollCO2 certification from the Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC), which awards Sweden leading environmental certifications for buildings.
“NollCO2 certification has been a goal throughout the build period, so we are delighted and proud to have earned this recognition. This is proof that we are at the forefront of the sustainability and environmental impact of our buildings,” said Erik Nilssonproject manager at Castellum AB.
This certification means that the building has a zero net climate impact during its lifetime. The Korsningen block is extremely energy efficient and also emits very low levels of greenhouse gases when in use. The interior environment of wooden buildings is beneficial for health: wood has a positive impact on air, comfort and acoustics.
“This is one of the first NollCO2 certificates in Sweden. There are only a few properties in Sweden NollCO certified2which makes us particularly happy and proud to lead the way,” says Rutger Arnhult, CEO of Castellum AB.
