  • “Q by Aston Martin’s F / A-18 livery presents a set of conceptual specifications
  • The price starts from £ 765,000. Now available to order. Q1 2021 deliveries

Wednesday March 4, Gaydon: The Aston Martin V12 Speedster made its world debut today, with just 88 examples of this purist, limited-edition model ready to hit the road.

Created by the tailor-made personalization service of the British luxury brand “Q by Aston Martin”, the Aston Martin V12 Speedster is a truly visceral driver’s car which is inspired by both the brand’s rich racing history and aeronautical design. Today’s example is presented in an F / A-18 conceptual livery, also organized by the same craftsmen.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Aston Martin Lagonda Group, Dr. Andy Palmer, said: “It makes me extremely proud to reveal the latest and most exciting special model from Aston Martin today. The V12 Speedster is an incredible demonstration of the breadth of skill and determination of the “Q by Aston Martin” team, who have worked tirelessly to create this superb two-seater sports car for our most demanding customers. and the most enthusiastic. “

Designed just over 12 months ago, the V12 Speedster underwent an intensive development program, moving from the drawing board to production reality during this short period. Demonstrating the skills and meticulous planning of “ Q by Aston Martin ” and Aston Martin Design, the V12 Speedster is a living show car, highlighting the company’s commitment to providing customers with a superb driver, using engineering ingenuity and cutting-edge materials evident throughout the Aston Martin Range.

Using the latest Aston Martin glued aluminum architecture, the V12 Speedster uses elements from the DBS Superleggera and Vantage model lines to create its own unique platform. With an independent double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension with coil springs and adaptive damping offering Sport, Sport + and Track modes, the V12 Speedster also benefits from standard 21-inch forged alloy wheels with central locking forged. Carbon-ceramic brakes of 410 mm on the front axle and 360 mm on the rear are also standard equipment.

On the unique chassis of the V12 Speedster is a custom body constructed almost entirely of carbon fiber. Miles Nurnberger, design director, Aston Martin Lagonda, said: “With the V12 Speedster, we go back a bit and look back at our past to find inspiration. Since the launch of DB11, everything has been focused and very forward-looking. Here, however, we find a different tempo. There is a clear lineage from the 1959 winning DBR1 from Le Mans to our CC100 Speedster centenary concept in 2013. There is also a bit of 1953 DB3S in the middle section, so this is really our latest embodiment of the Speedster concept. It is also inspired by fighter jets as much as by our history, and it was created to provide an incredibly visceral experience, which is why it is a V12 rather than a V8. With the V12 Speedster, we amplify all the emotional strings we can to the absolute maximum. “

Nurnberger adds: “No roof or screen, a big, low engine, with broad shoulders and an exaggerated and emotional style with two bumps and the spine separating the driver and the passenger. The light and low rear contrasts with the bold and enlarged grille, the unique headlights and the nostril of the hood at the front. The hood nostril which we haven’t done in a very long time, but we brought them back. It is a visual trick to allow us to save space for the V12. This creates this iconic vent. “

The interior specification pushes new limits, using a mixture of traditional and modern materials. Satin structural carbon fiber contrasts with traditional handcrafted saddle leather, chrome, aluminum and even 3D printed rubber. Visually and physically, the interior reduces mass, for a slimmer and more efficient style, but which retains all the emotion and know-how for which Aston Martins is renowned. In front of the passenger is a removable leather bag instead of a traditional glove box, while there is additional storage space under the rear bumps for luggage.

Unveiled here today at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, the V12 Speedster was presented in a conceptual specification inspired by the legendary F / A-18 and will be available to customers on order. Born of an exciting new collaboration with Boeing and created by the tailor-made personalization service of the brand “ Q by Aston Martin ”, this striking livery takes inspiration from the legendary fighter plane and is finished in Skyfall Silver, with contrasting satin black on the exhaust tips, grille and blade ventilation. The dark theme is applied to the interior, with satin dark chrome, machined aluminum, black leather, black technical textile, black carpets and bright red Aston Martin door handles, creating a useful look for this conceptual style.

The V12 Speedster engine is equipped with the sparkling 5.2-liter V12 Twin-Turbo engine from Aston Martin, with a peak power of 700 hp1 and 753Nm1 of couple. Fitted at the front in the middle, the 48-valve four-cam all-alloy engine is mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with a limited-slip differential driving the rear wheels. The V12 Speedster is capable of accelerating to 62 mph (100 km / h) in 3.5 seconds en route to a top speed limited to 186 mph (300 km / h)1.

The iconic V12 engine promises scintillating performance, but further underscores the abundant character of the V12 Speedster and its unprecedented commitment to exciting driving is an even more invigorating sound signature. To create this, Aston Martin engineers created a tailor-made stainless steel exhaust system emerging centrally in the surface of the diffuser at the rear of the car for an even more exciting sound and character of the transmission. With the V12 Speedster, every element of driving is experiential, the most obvious being the removal of the windshield adding to visceral engagement, increasing the driving experience to new levels.

Matt Becker, chief engineer at Aston Martin, said: “For thrills and excitement, the V12 Speedster is unprecedented, the fully open element of the car adding a new dimension to the experience. It engages at all levels, offering a precise and driving driving experience, with agility and balance supported by the abundant power of the 5.2-liter V12 biturbo from Aston Martin. The driving is not purer than that.

Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “There is nothing to demonstrate Aston Martin’s commitment to providing unique and special models to its customers more than the V12 Speedster. The 88 hand-built cars will be sought after by driving enthusiasts and collectors around the world. I’m excited not only about what they offer drivers, but what it means. The V12 Speedster not only presents our incredible engineering capacity and ambition, but it also celebrates the rich heritage of Aston Martin. “

Orders are now being taken for the V12 Speedster, with prices starting at £ 765,000 including VAT and deliveries are expected to start in the first quarter of 2021.
