The NFL has revealed his 2024 Pro Bowl roster, bringing together some of the most elite players in the game and highlighting the exceptional season they were able to put together. However, this is admittedly an inexact science and always seems to leave out a handful of deserving candidates. This voting process is split into thirds, with fans, players and coaches all having a say in who gets to play, but stars sometimes fall through the cracks, and this go-round is no exception.
Below, you’ll find five players who were snubbed from the 2024 Pro Bowl roster.
You can make an outside argument for Josh Allen winning MVP, and yet he was left off the Pro Bowl roster. The Bills signal-caller helped resurrect Buffalo’s season and now has them in position to move into first place in the AFC East if they can defeat the Miami Dolphins on the road on Sunday. Allen’s interceptions were a blemish on his resume, but there’s no denying his much-needed impact on the Bills’ offense and strong overall performance this season. His numbers are almost identical to those of Patrick Mahomes – who was on the list – and he’s even thrown more touchdowns. Allen also has more fourth-quarter comebacks and wins than Mahomes this season and beat the Chiefs quarterback at Arrowhead in their head-to-head matchup this season. And we haven’t even taken into account Allen’s rushing stats.
Winfield played for the Buccaneers this season and is arguably the most surprising snub in the entire NFL. In 16 games played and participating in 98% of Tampa Bay’s defensive snaps this season, he has 12 assists, three interceptions, five forced fumbles, five sacks and 117 total tackles. In every way, Winfield has been dominant and is a big reason why the Bucs are still in position to win the NFC South this weekend. But don’t take our word for it, Winfield himself also seems baffled by this snub.
The wide receiver group is a tough group to break into, but Aiyuk was one of the most effective wide receivers in the league this season. He didn’t receive the level of volume as the wideouts who made up the roster, but still posted comparable numbers. Aiyuk leads the NFL with 18.3 yards per reception this season and averages 87.8 yards per game, despite only having 101 total targets. For reference, CeeDee Lamb (168), Puka Nacua (154), Mike Evans (128) and AJ Brown (157) have all seen significantly more targets than Ayuik, but he’s still sixth in the league in receiving yards and the Lamb Trails (the highest of the group) of only 300 meters.
There is an alternate world in which Aaron Rodgers stays healthy and Breece Hall is firmly on the Pro Bowl roster. Even without the Jets signal caller under center, Hall put together an extremely impressive sophomore season thanks to a Pro Bowl-worthy ACL. While New York had little to no passing game throughout the year and defenses were obsessed with stopping Hall, the guard dominated and was particularly effective as a runner and pass catcher . Hall is currently tied for ninth in the NFL in total scrimmage yards with (1,395), which beats Derrick Henry, and has done so with 29 fewer touches. You could also make a similar case for Jaguars running back Travis Etienne over Henry.
Sneed’s inability to stay out of the officials’ line of sight and constantly be penalized likely landed him on the Pro Bowl roster, but he has the resume to make this team, especially against a player like Jalen Ramsey, who has played extremely well this season. but was limited to just nine games due to injury. Sneed has 14 assists this season in 16 games played, along with two interceptions and 78 tackles. He also allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete just 51 percent of their passes when targeting Sneed and has a passer rating of 56.2. Sneed also hasn’t allowed a single receiving touchdown all season.
