BRENTWOODTennessee- The Ohio Valley Conference Board of Presidents exercised the contract option to host the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Ford Center in Evansville, Arizona. Indiana.
The OVC Basketball Championships have been held at the venue since 2018. In September 2019, the OVC agreed to a three-year deal to continue hosting the event at the venue through 2023 with an option for 2024.
The dates for the 2024 championship will be March 6-9.
“It was a common sense decision because of the warm and supportive relationship we’ve developed in Evansville as well as the quality championship venue,” OVC commissioner Beth DeBauche said. “We look forward to continuing to showcase our member institutions in the community and engage our new member schools in the event.”
“The Ohio Valley Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships have become one of the most celebrated annual events in the Evansville area,” said Eric Marvin, executive director of the regional athletic commission. of Evansville. “The energy and excitement the event generates each March is truly unique, culminating in the awarding of first place to the NCAA Tournament right here in the heart of Evansville. We are thrilled the conference has entrusted us with to be their host partner for another year.”
The Ford Center, which opened in November 2011, is an 11,000-seat arena located in the heart of Evansville’s downtown district. The 290,000 square foot facility is home to the Evansville Thunderbolts of the Southern Professional Hockey League and the University of Evansville men’s basketball team. The Ford Center also serves as host to numerous sporting events and concerts on an annual basis.
The 2019 OVC Championships saw record attendance at the venue, while the men’s semi-finals drew an OVC neutral venue record of 8,294 fans, a mark that was broken the following night with an attendance of 10,525.
The OVC Basketball Tournament is the fourth oldest Division I championship in the nation; the men’s event will be held for the 60th time from March 1-4, 2023.
