A historic number of quarterbacks could become first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday. And Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. is campaigning to be one of them, defending his resume, resilience and strengths as a potential face of the franchise in an open letter to NFL general managers on Monday for The Players’ Tribune.
Penix, who turns 24 in May, is a popular first-round projection with many analysts. But he also has an extensive injury history, including two torn ACLs, before his trade to Washington.
“I hear it all the time,” Penix writes. ” He was injured ; What happens if he gets hurt again? » Haven’t I shown you what it looks like? Haven’t I logged almost 2,000 listens since my last injury… The truth is I would be more worried if I had never been injured. come back the same. …For most people, that would be the end of their story. But there is more to my story, and I own every page of it.
Penix went on to compare himself to several NFL greats who have suffered serious injuries during their careers.
“There is [sic] “There have been plenty of other guys who were cut from the same cloth, who experienced the same challenges and demonstrated the same resilience,” he writes. “Guys that you would have lost money on if you bet against them. Guys like Thomas Davis, who made three Pro Bowls after tearing the same ACL three times. Guys like Frank Gore, who had a 16-year Hall of Fame running back career after tearing his ACL twice in college.
“So I have no problem getting all the MRIs and X-rays you ask of me,” he continues. “The truth is, this is an EKG that will tell you everything you need to know about me.”
