Steve Martin is generally unfazed. The veteran comedian and legendary, fast-paced improviser was stunned recently when his Only murders in the building his co-star Selena Gomez came to pay tribute to him at the red carpet premiere of his two-part documentary on Apple TV+, Steve! (Martin).
In a video from the premiere earlier this month, Martin immediately gives Gomez some of his patented good-natured grief, joking, “I thought you said you were going to get dressed,” while Sel – wore a stunning black Oscar De La Renta dress. – leans in for a kiss on the cheek.
“Shh, shh, I’m so happy to be here, my family came!” Gomez tells Martin, who seems genuinely touched by the gesture, saying, “I can’t believe you’re here!” Thank you so much…that’s so nice of you! While Gomez keeps telling him to “stop” making such a fuss, Martin appears to have tears in his eyes as the couple poses for a few photos.
Gomez tells Martin she’s excited to celebrate him, noting she brought her stepfather and grandmother, while the comic greets his family and jokes, “Here’s what I love about you being here , you don’t know anything about me.” Selena admits it, replying, “Yeah, that’s what I came for, so I could learn.”
She protests a little too much, though, because the two most likely learned a lot about each other while filming three seasons of the Hulu crime drama alongside Martin’s frequent comedy film, Martin Short.
The two-part streaming documentary now uses a combination of classic and never-before-seen footage to tell the “back in the day” story of Martin’s rise to the height of comedy. Rushmore before his decision to abruptly stop touring stand-up and his “now” life as a beloved former sniper.
