Matt Wallace is tied for the lead at the Mexican Open after a late surge in his second round at Vidanta.
The Englishman shot a five-under-par 66 in his opening round to move three shots off the lead in the PGA Tour event.
Wallace was up a stroke over the first 10 holes on the second day, but three birdies and an eagle in the final eight holes helped him to a 65.
That leaves him 11 under at the halfway point, tied at four with Sami Valimaki, Alvaro Ortiz and Jake Knapp.
“My iron play was great, my putting was really nice,” Wallace said. “I managed my game very well at the end.
“Out of four, I hit a great driver, a four-iron to nine feet and missed it, but I took a lot of positives from those two shots in the last five holes, which I managed to play very well.”
Today’s leader, Erik van Rooyen, is one shot away after shooting a 69, which included two birdies in the final four holes.
