The matrix plunges into a whole new artistic dimension.
Danny Boyle – known for directing films like Slumdog Millionaire, 28 days later and 127 hours – was tapped to direct a hip-hop dance adaptation of the Matrix film franchise.
The live broadcast, titled free your mindis set to debut on October 13, 2023 at Factory International in Manchester, England and conclude on November 5, 2023, according to the site’s official website.
“Combining the hip-hop choreography of hundreds of dancers with the latest immersive design, free your mind will take the audience on an exciting journey through The matrix and into a new realm of possibility,” reads a logline for the show, which will be the UK venue’s first production.
Call free your mind a “large-scale, immersive performance”, adds an official statement, “Using spectacular visual effects, a cast of professional dancers and hundreds of Manchester attendees will recreate some of the film’s most iconic scenes, sparking visions of a alternate future.”

Boyle, 65, said on Thursday: “You know what it’s like, especially right now, you’re thinking, what’s going on? This is a project where we’re trying to address that… through the dance, really”, The Guardian reports.
“It’s not too revealing, but it does reveal some of the ambition,” he added.
According to the Factory International website, the creative team also includes composer Michael “Mikey J” Asante and choreographer Kenrick “H2O” Sandy, as well as artist Es Devlin and poet playwright Sabrina Mahfouz.
“I’m thrilled to be part of Factory International as a starting point for some sort of identity that this amazing new building is going to have,” Boyle said in a statement. “It’s a space that gives you enormous potential.”
He continued, “It’s hugely ambitious in terms of scale. In my lifetime, to see a new space like this open up is hugely empowering, and I hope the next generation of artists will feel that power. “

The matrix grossed more than $463 million at the worldwide box office when it was released in 1999, according to Box Office Mojo, and spawned three sequels — the most recent, in 2021 Matrix Resurrections.
In December, franchise star Keanu Reeves confessed he would be open to revisiting the role of Thomas Anderson for the fifth time if the opportunity presented itself and the right people signed on.
“If she invites me back, I’m in,” the actor said, signaling his desire to return to the hit franchise provided director Lana Wachowski helms the film again.
However, Reeves, 58, admitted he didn’t think another movie was in the cards.
“I don’t think so. If I had to vote…one vote, I’d say Lana wouldn’t vote again. Matrix,” he said.
