Taylor Swift just confirmed one of the biggest Easter eggs hidden in his new album folklore.
When the pop star’s surprise album was first released last month, fans speculated that the song “Betty” was named after Blake lively and Ryan reynolds“Third child born last year. The track features three characters—Betty, Inez, and James– the last two being the names of the couple’s three and five-year-old daughters. And it turns out the Swifties were onto something.
During an appearance on Country Radio, Taylor discussed the meaning of that particular song, saying, “[James] lost the love of his life and does not understand how to get it back. I think we all have these situations in our lives where we’re learning to really, really apologize for the first time.
“Everyone makes mistakes, everyone makes mistakes sometimes and this is a song I wrote from the perspective of a 17 year old boy,” she continued. “I’ve always liked that in music, you can slip into different identities and sing from the point of view of others. So that’s what I did on this one.
She concluded by corroborating the theories of her fans, saying, “I named all the characters in this story after the children of my friends … and I hope you like it!” And just in case that wasn’t a sufficiently explicit confirmation, “a source with knowledge of the situation” also said People that the song was “named in part” for Lively and Reynolds’ youngest daughter.
Now we just need Joni mitchell to finally manifest and reveal itself as the real one William bowery.
