Issuance sets tone and keeps bonds in range

Bonds have now spent over 2 weeks locked in a very tight trading range. Yesterday, yields were trying to break through the floor in the morning before moving back into the range at the close. Today the rebound continued with yields back to around the midpoint (i.e. 3.76+ in a range of around 3.68-3.84. Initial weakness was due to a large supply of corporate bonds from Amazon.This set the tone for the day (closing yields very close to initial selling levels).

      • Case Shiller -1.2 vs previous -1.3
    • Annual House Price Index
      • FHFA 11.0 vs previous 12.0
      • Case Shiller 10.4 vs 13.1 previous

Slightly stronger overnight, but immediately moving into negative territory on a combination of German inflation data and corporate bond issues. 10-year up 4 basis points to 3.718. MBS down a quarter point.

Lowest levels just before 9:30 a.m. Rebounded a bit after that and is now trading slightly lower with MBS down a quarter point on the day. 10-year yield up 5.8 basis points to 3.737.

2:40 p.m.

back to the day’s lows with MBS down more than 3/8 and 10-year yields up 8bp at 3.757.
