Ree Drummond’s “Pioneer Woman” Blog Documents Her Life in Pawhuska, Oklahoma
Drummond started blogging in 2006 under the name The pioneer woman to document his daily life as the wife of a rancher and mother of four – now five – in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. It didn’t take long for Drummond to get millions of views every month. And she made the success of this blog a Pioneer woman brand that features a Food Network TV show, cookbooks and a range of cookware.
The blogger and TV personality bought a century-old building in downtown Pawhuska in 2012. She renovated the property and turned it into a restaurant and retail store known as The Mercantile. Drummond also has a bed and breakfast in town called The Boarding House, a pizzeria called P-Town Pizza, and an ice cream and candy store known as Charlie’s Sweet Shop.
Food Network star is married to fourth-generation breeder
Drummond graduated from the University of Southern California and intended to attend Chicago Law School. But that all changed when she met Ladd Drummond, a fourth generation rancher who is a member of a large ranching family in Osage County, Oklahoma.
This county has a history that includes a history of murder and mayhem that took place in the 1920s after the discovery of oil on the lands of the Osage Indian Nation. This oil made the members of the Osage tribe extremely wealthy. It also made them targets.
Ree Drummond’s Pawhuska house was the filming location for Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie “Killers of the Flower Moon”
In spring 2021, Pawhuska was not only a travel destination for fans of the Pioneer woman. It was also the filming location for Leonardo DiCaprio’s new film Moon Flower Killers – his last collaboration with director Martin Scorsese.
The Apple-backed western tells the story of a series of murders in Osage County that left many of the Osage Indian Nation dead. The killings did not take place in Pawhuska. But, the trial related to the case took place there. That’s why the small town of Oklahoma became a Hollywood movie set last spring.
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is based on a true story
In the film, DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, the son of a powerful local breeder played by Robert De Niro. The film is based on a non-fiction bestseller written by David Grann – Killers of the Flower Moon: the Osage murders and the birth of the FBI. The book traces the investigation into a number of murders that appeared to target the Osage Nation. But, among the more than two dozen people who died, the victims also included a well-known tanker.
“We are delighted to finally start production on Moon Flower Killers in Oklahoma, ”Scorsese said in April after the pandemic delayed filming for a year, according to Indiewire. “Being able to tell this story in the territory where these events took place is extremely important and essential to allow us to portray an accurate representation of the time and the people. “
Will Ree Drummond or his companies appear in “Killers of the Flower Moon”?
Scorsese says he is grateful to the Oklahoma Film and Music Bureau and the Osage Nation for helping with the $ 200 million filming. What is considered the largest film production in the history of the state.
The director says he brought in consultants and cultural advisers from Osage. He also worked with a local cast and crew to “bring history to life on screen and immortalize a period in American history that should be forgotten.”
Just because they used locals as extras doesn’t mean Drummond will appear in the background of a scene. Pioneer woman fans shouldn’t expect to see any of his companies show up, either. According to The Oklahoman, the film crew constructed building facades in the heart of Pawhuska. And covered the road with dirt to recreate the look of the city in the 1920s.
Moon Flower Killers is expected to be released in 2022.
