Jeff Hans is moving eight miles east and one division higher as he moves from one local women’s college basketball team to another.
Northern Kentucky University named Hans as its new head coach on Monday, replacing Camryn Volz, who had a 106-126 record in eight seasons at the helm.
Hans moves after 13 seasons to Thomas More University, where he led the women’s basketball program to new levels of success. Hans guided the Saints to a 339-42 (.889) record, eight regular season conference titles, eight conference tournament titles, 11 national tournament berths, including two NCAA Division III national championships, one NAIA National Championship and two NAIA National Runners. up.
Last season was TMU’s first at the NCAA Division II and Great Midwest Athletic Conference level. The Saints went 18-11 overall this season and had a G-MAC record of 13-7.
Hans previously spent five seasons as a member of the NKU staff under longtime head coach Nancy Winstel, when the Norwegians were a Division II program.
Hans spent four years as the head women’s basketball coach at Kentucky, coaching at Lexington Catholic from 2006 to 2008 and at St. Henry from 2004 to 2006. During his four years as head coach of As a high school senior, Hans had an 89-34 record and won two district titles and finished as regional runner-up twice.
He also was an assistant at Division I Indiana State University from 2002 to 2004, a graduate assistant at NKU from 2001 to 2002 and an assistant at Wilmington College from 1999 to 2001. Hans, a 1999 graduate of Wilmington College, helped his teams reached a total of 168.-67 (.714) during his eight years as an assistant at the college level.
NKU will introduce Hans at a press conference Monday at 1 p.m.
