Joaquin Niemann beat Sergio Garcia on a spectacular fourth play-off hole played in near darkness to win the LIV Golf Mayakoba title in Mexico.
The Chilean had the chance to win in regulation but missed a birdie putt at the 18th to send him into the play-offs.
Both players reached par three times on the par-four 18th, before Niemann birdied the fourth attempt.
“On the practice range, I saw myself make that last putt to win, so that’s really awesome,” Niemann said.
The players had been offered the chance to play the fourth play-off hole on Monday, but both agreed to continue despite the rapidly fading light.
“At the first play-off hole, I didn’t think it would be too dark,” Niemann added.
“I thought it would take a little while [longer]. You never know what’s going to happen, but I expected to go as fast as possible.
“I just told myself to give myself a chance and I ended up hitting a good shot and making that putt, which was awesome.”
Spaniard Jon Rahm narrowly missed out on making the three-way play-off on his debut at Liv Golf after a bogey-bogey saw him finish third on 10 under, two shots behind Niemann and compatriot Garcia.
Another LIV debutant, England’s Tyrell Hatton, finished tied for eighth at seven under.
The newly formed Legion XIII team, comprising Hatton, Rahm, Zimbabwean Kieran Vincent and American Caleb Surratt, won the team title at 24 under for the week – four shots ahead of Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC.
