Earlier: Atlanta Hawks fans witnessed a terrifying sight during the team’s pre-game show Monday night.
Longtime announcer Bob Rathbun suffered what looked like a potentially serious medical emergency when Atlanta’s game with the Oklahoma City Thunder broke up.
Rathbun was sitting next to franchise legend and current analyst Dominique Wilkins when he began to look distressed. There is a video of the episode, but we’ll leave it out of the article.
Immediately, prayers for Rathbun, 68 began to flow on Twitter.
“Prayer for Bob Rathbun. Really hope he’s doing well,” said one fan, with another noting that the voice of Bally Sports is “not just a great sportscaster, but a wonderful human being.”
We’ll keep you posted on official Rathbun news as it becomes available.
Hopefully the whole incident sounded scarier than it actually was and he’ll be fine and back on the mic in no time.
Update: It looks like we have some good news regarding Rathbun, who was treated for dehydration and taken to hospital for evaluation.
“I have been told that Bob Rathbun has been treated by emergency medical professionals for dehydration. He is stable, responsive and is heading to Emory Midtown for further evaluation,” Hawks said beat the writer. Lauren Williams.
Wonderful news.
