After reminding Office 2016 and 2019 users without a subscription of the imminent end of support, Microsoft has just released the first preview of Office LTSC 2024.
There are advantages and disadvantages to using Office’s long-term service channel edition, including the fact that it is available for a one-time payment. Although users miss out on some Microsoft 365 features and the suite receives far fewer updates, this version is still a great option for businesses and organizations that want to avoid the disruption of unwanted changes due to updates more frequent. Microsoft Office LTSC 2024 is available for Windows and macOS, and when it receives a full release later this year, it will be supported for five years. While Microsoft would much prefer that every Office user pay a monthly or annual subscription, the company recognizes the need to offer a subscription-free option. It states that “Office LTSC 2024 will be a valuable upgrade for customers who need to keep their Office applications on-premises.”
Opting for the LTSC edition of Office means missing out on the features powered by Copilot, but AI tools simply aren’t of interest to everyone.
