European stocks rise at the open;  London hits new high – Barron’s

Europe’s major stock markets opened higher on Monday, with London hitting a new record high as investors seized on the latest mergers and acquisitions news.

London’s FTSE 100 index hit a new record high of 8,185.59 points after British music publisher Hipgnosis agreed to an upgraded $1.6 billion buyout from US private equity firm Blackstone.

Europe’s major stock markets opened higher on Monday, with London hitting a new record high as investors seized on the latest mergers and acquisitions news.

London’s FTSE 100 index hit a new record high of 8,185.59 points after British music publisher Hipgnosis agreed to an upgraded $1.6 billion buyout from US private equity firm Blackstone.

The FTSE then pared its gains to 8,173.12 points, up 0.4 percent from Friday’s closing level.

In the euro zone on Monday, Paris’ CAC 40 index gained 0.3 percent to 8,113.39 points and Frankfurt’s DAX gained 0.2 percent to 18,201.88.
